When she was younger, Magdalene played cowboys & indians with the boys. Her brothers, her brothers' friends, her boy cousins. Now she didn't. Now she was afraid of them, she was afraid of them when they looked at her a certain way. She was afraid they would contaminate her with some incurable disease..."
